Eric Sharp has a background in contemporary and traditional folk, as well as classical influences. He has studied song-writing over the years with Boo Hewerdine, Darden Smith, Leon Rosselson, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Karyn Polwart and others. He likes his songs to tell a story, and though they should reach you first time round, he likes to weave in some deeper layers. Many of the songs are stories told in character, rather than being auto-biographical.

Think again My father’s job is steady, permanent and slow Thirty years of service, many more to go
That’s not my ambition, but there must me something more
Than setting out each evening to deliver to your door
Dear Mariella Dear Mariella, I don’t know where to turn My love life is in chaos, I never seem to learn
Another break up hits me and I don’t know whatto do
Forgive me Mariella but I need some help from you
Change of Plan I was nothing special until you came along
I told you I was trouble, you told me I was wrong
Now it just seems natural, the way it’s meant to be Coz we felt the baby kicking, so I guess you’re stuck with me
