Eric’s songwriting builds on his mastery of traditional songs, but with modern topics. He has studied songwriting with Leon Rosselson, Karine Polwart, Dave Wilson, Boo Hewerdine, Darden Smith and Beth Nielsen Chapman among others. He has travelled to songwriting camp in Nashville, and is a member of the Nashville Songwriter’s Association - but his writing is absolutely contemporary British.
As a traditional singer he spent a year on the Folk Degree course at Newcastle (then the money ran out!)
His interest in people is supported by his training in social work and mental health. Many songs are written from another person’s viewpoint, and complex issues are never treated glibly.
